Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is the nation’s leading STEM solution in over 8,000 schools across the U.S. The program’s mission is simply to prepare students for the global economy. The PLTW website, www.pltw.org, states, “The U.S. Department of Commerce estimates that jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) will grow 17 percent by 2018- nearly double the growth for non-STEM fields. By 2018, the U.S. will have more than 1.2 million unfilled STEM jobs because there will not be enough qualified workers to fill them. STEM is where jobs are today and where the job growth will be in the future”.
Join us for a 3rd – 9th grade PLTW Showcase on Tuesday, February 23rd from 5:00-8:00 PM at The University of Texas at Tyler Innovation Academy Palestine Campus (1820 W. Spring St.) to show the public how UTTIA is emphasizing STEM across all disciplines. Students in grades 3-6 will exhibit projects from their Launch class. Students in grades 7-9 will model applications written for their CSE (Computer Science and Software Engineering) class, demonstrate machines created for their GTT (Gateway to Technology) class, and display engineering notebooks from their IED (Introduction to Engineering and Design) class.
We would like for all parents to join us in bringing attention to the students’ hard work and professional products. We encourage every student and parent to attend. We also encourage each family to bring a friend, neighbor, community member, or someone who would like to see what we are doing at UTTIA, especially those who may have a child interested in attending now or in the near future.
